A minor planet is orbiting less than 75,000 kilometers away from the Earth a distance only one fifth of that between the Earth and the Moon, Chinese scientists say.

The planet, 1997BR, found on January 20 by Chinese scientists, is the first minor planet revolving so close to the Earth in the Leo Constellation, Li Qibin, director of the Beijing Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told Xinhua News Agency, China
