Android is a cell phone operating system powered by google. It differs only 4 advanced users who would like to tweak the look and feel of their phone by editing the operating system. ANdroid is special because it operates under a GNU license which gives users rights to alter the OS Source code to suit their needs.

Java is also freeware mostly and powers Sony phones but then u r ability to tweak a JAva phone is quite limited to adding 3rd party apps. U can't modify the OS itself....and Symbian (which powers Nokia phones) is full proprietor license. U have no right to alter the source code or even reverse engineer it.
