The association of the name of the god of deat h(Yama) with this auspicious occasion may look rather odd but has mythical significance. Yama's death was the first death in mankind and his sister Yami became uinconsolable. She could not be calmed down in any way.When the gods tried to console her that the incidence of death was long,long ago Yami counter,' How could you say that. He only died this morning and the still there in the sky!' Then gods realised that that was a fact. Night had not till then been created and to even any casual observer it appeared that it is the same day as the Sun had not set. Sun never set then.(This non-setting also has a historical context.
