God alone knows or more appropriately only 10, JP knows, not even MMS. He will be the last one to know anyway. The congress is in a unenviable situation. Every effort of the party to show case as one who is capable of leading has backfired, the latest one being the UP election. Unlikely he would be launched for the Gujarat campaign because for all the media bashing, highlighting of Keshbhai revolt etc, nothing seems to have dented Modi's support. After all, he needs just around 45 percent of the votes coming in to see him through with a thumping victory. For all the negative publicity, I don't think Gujaratis are going to forsake him.
Where does that leave an option? The risk is there. Suppose he is given an important ministry, probably something like rural development, there would be a herculean task to show results where it is easier to use 'what has not been done' rather than what has been done to run down such a ministry. That would put a bigger question mark on him leading the ...more
