Our present Democratic system has a very big flaw of Province representation and pattern of Structure..since it does not give any accountablity to the Political Leaders once they get elected.. In democracy..the Leader choosen by Popular Will are accountable all the time and not just for the election face.. So the Flaw is in the DESIGN OF REPRESENTATION..

Since it was the people of India, who decided to frame the Indian Constitution and adopt it, it follows that the people or the nation can do anything with the Constitution, that is to say, modify, change and even reject it and frame another one. Therefore, in democratic India, sovereign power lies with the people. But here we see that those who should be serving the people have become the masters of the people and too openly!
The defect in this system is that the people are uneducated and do a lot of herd-mentality voting. Then Voting is also done on caste religion basis. That gives power to unscrupulous people to mobilize votes in their favour.
The biggest defect is that we have lost our conscience down the time line since independence. Our elected representatives dont bat an eyelid while indulging in acts of corruption and telling blatant lies to the public. Democracy can either be sustained by educating people properly and inculcating in them a sense of propriety and developing ...more

Dear venkatesaldevarajan,
What is lacking in the Democratic political system with particular reference to India are :
** Non paricipation of educated intelligencia class of people
** Back door entry in both the houses ( Defeated candidate nominated for Rajya Sabha, even present PM has not won a single election, demeaning democractic form of governance, which is against people's mandate.
** Unaccountability at every step of administration.
** Bandh by political class creating havoc for common people.
** Illitrate becoming education minister / , wife beater/ charge sheeter becoming home minister etc.
** An IAS/ IPS saluting a Less literate minister /iIllitrate minister.
** The PRESIDENT / Governors becoming a political tool, where as they should be apolitical and unbiased.
** We have to necessarily choose a candidate from candidate's list in general elections, even if I don't like any one of the candidate. It is against my wish, which defeats the democracy wisdom. There should ...more

India was never designed 2 b democratic 4 the masses, only to the local elite. This is because we didn't "win" independence but the British granted it 2 us- because they were too badly damaged to govern even London after WW2, leave alone India. Foodstock was depeleted etc.

India had some talented visionaries like NEhru Chacha but thing is he inherited a system which continued colonialism. Even today, we use 1885 land act, 1861 police act, which were ghosts of British Raj. Nehru wanted equal development for all citizens, but then he had to align w/ zamindars. So how would that work???

India had strong foundation but then chose to gave the democracy to people who served British Raj rather than to the common masses. That is the mother flaw of all our flaws.

In our system the glaring things that come to my mind, which needs attention are the following
1. It is winner take all situation. That means, even if the government is run on a wafer thin majority, most of the opposition members don't have much work to do except for raising some question and participate in the legislative committees, even where there is also a number game. Every elected member needs power to exercise, otherwise, there is no meaning of winning an elections. How to keep them busy for the five years, so that they don't indulge in destructive politics, is to be found out.

2. The accountability of political parties are lacking. As I am the opposition, I have every right to do any kind of political nuisance only to bring down the government or put the administrative machinery to standstill - this kind of attitude need to be curbed.

3. The walk out system should be declared illegal.

4. The impartiality of the speaker should be ensured. If required, speakers ...more

Normally we blame the politicians but the real flaw lies in the voters who are unable to chose the right kind of people to lead the country
