That is a great point raised by you, it is due to the reason of their difference in approach to our Father of nation Gandhiji as they were not the followers of his peace method to gain freedom. If Netaji would have made it to India via the flight he died in the country would have been different today & a far more stronger nation than it is. If Gandhiji wanted he could have stopped the execution of Bhagat singh & others but he didnt. That for me holds the key with the fact that Sardar Patel was asked by him to be the deputy of Nehru even when he was more suitable to be the PM!!

M pretty sure there were more than 365 / 366 freedom fighters .... and that ways, we will have to add days in a year keeping in mind the festival, independence day, etc holidays.

This is because it is not possible to give too many holidays. This may lead to demands for more holidays for tributes to other great national leaders. I feel this could be the reason.

Why should there be...because it was the Congress which came to power and ruled for the first 40 years or so...and they acknowledged the sacrifice of Congressis only. Netaji would be the last one on their mind or Bhagat Singh...because they think India gained freedom only due to the fasting of Gandhiji !
