The series is named after a satirical publication in 'The Sporting Times' in 1882 after the match at Oval in which Aus beat Eng on Eng soil for 1st time. The obituary stated that Eng cricket had died and "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Aus'.The Eng media dubbed the next tour of Eng to Aus in 1882-83 as the 'quest to regain the ashes'.During that tour in Aus a small terracotta urn was presented as a gift to Eng captain Ivo Bligh by a group of Melbourne women. The contents of the urn were reputed to be the ashes of an item of cricket equipment!Victorious teams often hold aloft replicas of the urn as a symbol of their triumph in Ashes series but the actual trophy has never been presented or displayed as a trophy.Regardless of who wins ,the urn is at MCC Museum at Lord's.

The series is named after a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, in 1882 after a match at The Oval in which Australia beat England on an English ground for the first time. The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English media dubbed the next English tour to Australia (188283) as the quest to regain The Ashes.

Iske peechhe ek lambi kahani hai. Ashes ka matlab rakh se hai. Dono dekh us rakh ke liye khelte hain. Kai saal pehle dono countries ke beech test series mein ek desh haar gaya to wahan ke ek news paper ne likh diya ki is team ki mot ho chuki hai. Aur ab use apni rakh wahan se lani chahiye. Kuchh aise hi kahani hai Ashes ki.Jyada detail main nahi pata.
