Why should Balwant Singh Rajoana not be hanged on 31st Marxh 2012 for killing ex-CM of punjab Beant Singh? Why Sikh organisations (including SGPC) want that he should not be hanged, and are meeting President of India today?

There is politics involved in the issue. That aside, I am against capital punishment of death whether it is by hanging, firing squad, electrocution etc. Capital punishment should be life sentence and life means actual life of the convict (till the person dies).

It is called Vote Bank Politics. Our political leaders are carrying vote bank politics too far. It is so deep rooted in our system that it is impossible to wipe out for many centuries to come. The trend of vote bank politics is a stumbling block in the path of progress. A certain period should be drawn for such cases and should be sorted out in that time frame. Now, those who oppose Capital punishment should understand one thing i.e. capital punishment is awarded to the most heinous crimes. It is awarded only when it is established that the murder was not the result of a momentary impulse, the result of serious provocation, but well-planned and cold-blooded. In such cases, it is felt that nothing l ...more

He is to be hanged on 31st March 2012 for killing CM Beant Singh of Punjab. Chances of he getting clemancy are thin. Shri Akal Takht has issued diktat for converting death penalty to life term in jail. It is pure politics.
