Female foeticide and infanticide is a serious crime. And so there cannot be any two views on that.

The only problem, however, is how to root out this evil. Since often the perpetrators of this crime do not realize its gravity, this social evil continues unabated.

At a time when our country is on the verge of becoming a global powerhouse, we cannot allow the horrific customs of ancient/ medieval ages to continue, much less flourish. For this to happen, we may need to find out ways of eliminating the bias against the girl child. And then there is an urgent need to tackle the problem of crime against women. Only then we can truly call India among the top countries in the world.

We wait for this day to arrive sooner than later.

Was the female child infanticide in existence for long in India.? No The present unsafe circumstances to the female gender forces the parents to think that their child also should not face all such harassment and it is better to leave the child even before it feels the earth. When the female child is 5 years old it should go to school as usual where the aragant ones who call themselves teachers try to spoil the child. Only in rare cases the teachers are taken to task and even then they will simply be shifted to some other places without any other punishment. When the child grow more to the age of 10 and above she has to face several torture on the way to school and if the persons causing such troubles are financially or politically sound, there will be none including the police to save the girl. If the girl some how manage and go to higher studies, the risk to their life will come in the form of eve teasing etc and if the girl is from a poor family , there will be none to ques ...more

That is not the case with countries in the middle east or in the west. In fact, it is quite the opposite out there. BTW, you have rightly pointed out that rampant infanticide (happens largely in the rural areas) has caused the male-female ratio to tilt heavy in the male side. The situation prompts one to think about the foresighted logic in Islam which allows a man to marry 4 women. And Islamic countries or communities (outside India) have no such problem as female child infanticide. The women are in fact nearly as strong (even as demanding and aggressive) as the men. I personally believe, nature will set this imbalance right sooner or later, regardless of whether the Indian government wakes up or not.

The question should have been regarding female foeticide and not infanticide as now females are being killed even before birth.
we have been able to hammer in the minds of the general public the benefits of having a small family but the people have still not given up their interest of having at least one male offspring.the society is definitely more tolerant towards towards female offspring now than before but the question of that atleast one male child remains.
in almost all the cases ,the families going in for this practice have female children already but not male child.not many families with one male child do it.

Female infanticide and all other crimes against women has been going on since ancient times. It is a very heinous crime. Girls are considered as a burden by many parents even now in states like Punjab, Haryana and other North Indian states. Even in South India also, it is no less. A law or a bill should be passed immediately to stop this heinous crime in our society. All the offenders should be punished severely and a message has to be spread in the society that girls can match boys in every aspect. Many parents yearn for having more and more number of boys, but, when old age approaches it is actually the girls who give them support. If this crime continues, a day will come when the whole of India will have only male population.

I am hapy for the dead baby girls. beacause they are safe with God.
what has a patriarchal society given women anyway ? we are commodities that belong to men/father/husbands. sacrifice like thats all we are born to do, endure inhuman crimes committed by men against us and weep in silence, but get punished if you speak up against almighty men. yeah lucky girl babies die at or before birth and are happy and safe with God.
only a woman understanda the worth of another woman, thats why she feels its ok for the girl baby to die once at the hands of her mother, than live life and die a million deaths at the hands of men. this is not pessimism its the reality.
when there are few women left for men to marry ( thats all they want from women, sex) it will hit men where it hurts them the most then they will realise.

Female infanticide in India has both Social and economical factors.
The biggest social reason in my opinion is Patriarchy. While in our day to day life we ignore this social evil, it has major role in sex selective abortions. Educated/ Uneducated/Working/Non-Working women mostly have no problem with this system of changing thier maiden names, moving out of their own family leaving their very own parents, sisters brothers . Infact it is Great Indian Tradition. But why girls are killed? Because instead of the biological power of procreation, the pain of gesation, bearth panks, breasfeeding, the family name moves on through Sons. Huh! isn't is ridiculous?

Most of the Indians still argue : What is the problem with the traditional role of women being housewives? But the same people will critisize female infanticide. You raise a girl child, give her the best of education , a hefty sum of Dowry and marry her off. She after marriage spends her time on watching Saas bhi kabh bahu thi. Wh ...more
