The demand for diamonds is high because people want them. Because of their rarity they have become known to symbolize much more than just a clear rock. Many people see a diamond as a means of telling their loved one that their love will last as long as the diamond although diamonds do not really last forever. Even diamonds will decay after a certain period of time. Other people just want them for it's symbolism of riches. There are many rocks that can duplicate the appearance of a diamond in jewelry.
