In response to your comment on PDS system all I can say is that it is not just very leaky but the quality of ration sold through PDS system is very poor. It is so poor that one gentleman while talking to me recently said that the quality of ration sold through PDS system is so poor that it can be at best be called as cattle feed. The failed and leaky PDS system is a perfect example is lack of proper co-ordination in administration and India's corrupt system. And the icing on the cake is that the Govt. instead of trying to improve the PDS system is now planning to provide food grains at cheap rates to more than 50% of India's population by passing the Food Security Bill through this very PDS system

FDI will have positive impact. Farmers will be able to get better price of their produce once sold directly to stores than through middle men. Traditionally, the retail chains tie up with farmers for long term contracts which they are bound to honour irrespective of pro or con impact on farm produce because of weather conditions or any other reason. It is in interest of retail chain to protect the interest of farmers to protect their own interest. A real win win situation.
