Ego is not a part of self respect.. Self respect is shown when you protect your respect.. If someone abuses, you can protect yourself by challenging the abuse. But Ego is blowing one's trumpet in such a manner that others are hurt.. Ego never brings friends. It makes you lose them.

Self respect or self esteem are the cumulative accumulations of a person's self confidence based on the past success achieved by the individual in various earlier experiences .So self esteem or self respect does form a part of Ego . Ego is the totality of a person in which self esteem is only one part as there are several other elements like wealth , status , power , personality etc that forms part of ego .

Self respect is having respect for yourself and knowing your own worth.

There is minor difference between the two: Ego makes us to think of our own needs and benefits. An egoistic person always concerned about his own interests. Thought that I am always right or I am the best shows ones ego.

When we have confidence in what we do which comes when we do any act according to our conscience develops feeling of self respect. We have self respect only if we are confident that we have not done wrong to anybody and having no feeling of guilt.

Ego is a negative feeling and self respect is positive feeling.

When ego shattered, we usually get into anger and try to shed our anger on others. We try our best to defend ourselves in every possible way. But when our self respect get hurted we usually feel helpless and start questing our self and even try to hurt also in some cases.
