The Official Status of the individual is designated by the color of the passport's cover:

* A blue passport indicates that the individual is an ordinary citizen.
* A green passport is the same status, prepared as a State Department design to recognize its 200th Anniversary.
* A maroon or red passport indicates that the individual is on official US Government business, Not of a diplomatic nature. That individual may be US military, the family of US military, an agency such as a trade mission, a file clerk, receptionist or other functionary. Those bearing this passport are to be afforded such assistance as they may require, but they do Not have Diplomatic immunity.

Are we talking about India ?
I have never seen a green one ever being issued in the country.
Dark Blue is the normal one and Red the diplomatic one signifying immunity from searches...
although the US authorities had subjected even our former President A J Abdul Kalam and Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to physical search at the airport
