Actually ALL WEALTHY PARENTS in all societies intrude when it comes to the choice of mates for their children.

People with no family fortune to preserve can have freedom to marry whomever they like.

In india - marriages are between families and not just a boy and a girl. Parents have a big stake in the marriage and hence a big say also.

Children grow up under more parental control than in Western countries - parents take interest and intrude into all aspects of children\'s lives - that is also true when it comes to choice of mate

Parents do not want their children to have sexual relationships before marriage.

Modern Indian parents are willing to give more freedom of choice - they want to know who the children are being friendly with - want to meet their children\'s friends - invite them home - have meetings at home - they are afraid that children may cross limits and get into trouble.

In western countries boys and girls start dating and even have sex at age of 16 years - over the years they may have multiple partners with whom they may have sexual relations also - Indian parents are conservative and do not allow that.

Parents, with their experience, can help thei ...more
