The digestive systems of children are not developed adequately till they are about 12 months old. Human intestines have many micro organisms that protect against certain types of harmful bacteria. Honey or products made from honey many a times have been shown to contain spores of a certain type of bacterium which may lead to development of a condition called botulism which in extreme cases may prove fatal in children since their intestines do not have micro organisms that fight the botulism bacteria.
This is the reason that doctors nowadays advise against feeding children honey or honey containing products for about 12 months after birth.
Certain pesticides used in farming get transferred to the honey during the process of fertilization of plant seeds through honey bees. These could also be harmful to babies.
