Can it be posible to make Song Composition purely based on Indian Ragas...and can be hit !! : ))..if so can you tell me which are the songs purely based on Ragas in the current years ?

Dear Mr Ramesh Mistry , It is quite possible . U have to understand what is called a raga first? its a composition of notes with certain unique principles. In fact every song is connected to some ragas but may not be purely. Light music always deviates rules so that untrained ear can accept. You know the legendry music director Madam Mohan has composed all his songs within the frame of a raga that too very rare raga but his speciality was to present a raga in a simplest form. He is the only person to compose song in raga Nand and that song is ever green, you may remember TU Jaha Jaha chalega Kabhi khud pe Kabhi Halat pe rona aya is the best example of rag Gara.
Besides, There are films like baiju bawra,Kohinoor ,Lofar, and many more oldies that were super hit because of the songs based on ragas.
Actually all the music directors of yesteryears were veteran classical musician and thats why we got good songs in those era but now the composers are not musicians but technicians .They k ...more

Luka chuppi ....song from Rang de basanti movie sung by Lata ji and A R rehman....thought it was not hit as other songs.....but its amazing,touching song
