Why bank employees want more salary and go on strike every year ?

The service rules are framed during the British times. They were also not laid down. Since the workers union was framed in 1955 by SBI employees, they demanded better working conditions for staff like delimiting the working hours which, in the past exceeded 12 hrs a day. The employees were crushed and continuation of services was not guaranteed if some one committed an insolent behavious with a supervisor.
The union brought drastic changes. Now that there are hundreds of new business taken by banks and the task of the staff is not easy in view of the increasing trend of public consciousness and govt 's pressure, working conditions are again worsening.
Secondly, the managment and emplyees unions/assocns. have agreed to revise salaries every five years yet the management tend to digress or breach the contract. Because of the inflation and moreover, they want to protect the banks from the Government's intended bill to increase the voting rights of the shareholders, and open it up to outsiders
