The Y chromosome is the male sex chromosome, absent in women. The gene on chromosome 15, called CYP19, codes for aromatase - an enzyme that converts testosterone into oestrogen in both sexes. Oestrogen influences height because it is responsible for bones fusing over at the ends, which stops people growing.
Aromatase seems to have its effect mainly on long bones, like those in the legs. Men and women generally have similar-sized bodies, but men tend to have longer legs.
That's why there is a difference in height between men and women - because the legs are so important in determining height.

Girls tend to stop growing taller within a few years of starting puberty. This is so their body would not be competing with a baby for food. Boys tend to reach puberty at a later age than girls. They would not be at the same disadvantage of growing taller, and in ancient times, taller men made better hunters and fighters.
Sexual attraction also plays a part. Traditionally, women have been attracted to taller men - that they can literally 'look up to'. Smaller women can bring out protective qualities in men.

Biological differences .... calcium needed for growth of bones used in the shaping of some female glands like Uterus, Ovary, Breasts, & extra fat producing glands, ( women have 14 % extra fat as compared to males having only 6% only ) therefore growth of bones stops but make it more massive for secretion of more RBCs....
