Traditions friend, traditions. i can tell you that i am a hindu brahmin (i have to mention my religion as it will not be clear otherwise) and i did not take a single paisa in my marriage from my in laws. even the marriage expenses were shared 50-50. whatever they gave to their daughter was purely their choice. I only DEMANDED my to be wife and SRI PHAL (Coconut) in the wedding process. nothing more, nothing less .... !!
