The first American President to visit India was Eisenhower during the peak of the cold war in 1959. At the time the US was not very friendly but they were still popular here and huge crowds turned up to welcome the visiting American President. Off course Eisenhower was from a different era and breed of Americans quite different from the hated Bush.
