BPL was once a household name for consumer goods enjoying great market share for all most all their products. Of late their marker share seen to have declined significantly. Is it right? If so what is the reason?

There was a time when BPL was enjoying the highest mrket share in white goods. When the Govt of India decided to allow foreign TV manufacturers to sell their products under their brand names, it was anxiously watched by the public as to what will happen to the Indian TV brands. (Till then, foreign TV manufacturers were not allowed to sell their tvs in the Indian market under their own brand name. So many Indian fly by night companies sprang up and started importing kits from Japanese manufacturers and marketed under new Indain brand names.Toshiba of japan was the most preferred of these new companies and there were not less than ten brands based on the imported Toshiba kits alone . The Black and White Sony was Orson here in India where as the colour Orso TV was assembled from Sharp Kit ). When Grundig Of Germany, Toshiba Hitachi, Sony,Philips etc started to market their TVs under their own brand names, all the fly by night "assembling companies" closed shop. Yes, because of competition from other brands, the demand from BPL products have come down.
