Hi,

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
The Indian national government takes on the governance and management of the building, and has done so for nearly a hundred years. It's not entirely clear who, if anyone other than the government, actually owns it. It's a huge tourist attraction, and (if you read an article in National Geographic) is under environmental stress and is sustaining damage due to air pollution and dramatically lower water levels in the adjoining Yamuna River. It has been governed, managed and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) since 1920.

Thanks,
