Samrat Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, more known as Hemu. He was one of the sons of a salt businessman from Rewari (Rajasthan). He was not interested in business in the least, and went and joined the Mughal army. He rose up to be the Senapati in the Mughal army and when Humayun suddenly died of an accident and his son Akbar was 14 years old and was away in north Punjab chasing an Afghan invader, Hemu took over the reigns of power and declared himself as the Emperor of India and decorated himself as Vikramaditya. There in Punjab, Bairam Khan the trusted General of Humayun corronated the 14 year Akbar and declared him as the next Mughal Emperor succeeding Humayun. And on his way back, Akbar was met by Hemu in Panipat. It was 1556 AD and the 2nd battle of Panipat was fought between Hemu and Akbar.
Hemu was critically injured as an arrow pierced his eye and he fell of the howdah of his elephant. He was captured and killed.
He was the last Hindu Emperor of India.
