1.
The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book 'Gulliver's Travels'. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos.....

I add this to Dr Sharma's answer.
Initial name of the website was "David and Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web"
Yang and Filo changed it because they realized a shorter name will be wide-reaching.
They considered themselves yahoos and the name "yahoo" served the above purpose.
Later people have Bacronymed it for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle"
