John Mathai who was not formally designated the Minister for Railways but he only presented the first Railway budget for independent India in 1947. So, Mr. N. Gopalaswamy Ayyangar was actually regarded as the first designated Railway Minister during the period 1948-1952.

In 1947 john mathai has submitted the first railway budget. !!
John Mathai was an economist who served as India's first Railway Minister.

Mathai graduated in economics from Madras Christian College. He presented two Budgets, but resigned following the 1950 Budget in protest at the increasing power of the Planning Commission and P.C. Mahalanobis!!!

N Gopalaswamy Ayyangar; worked on consolidating the various railways into the zonal railways(1947-1952)
