According to the latest discoveries and theories, the genus Homo first came on the scene 2.3 to 2.4 million years ago, while the species Homo sapiens came into being 250,000 to 400,000 years ago. These estimates involve variables, suppositions and resulting theories that are employed to approximate the age of fossils. Note that the time line range for the genus is far smaller than the time line range given for the species. That is despite the fact that the genus might have appeared 10 times as long ago as the species. This calls into question calculations of the age of fossils and to layers of rock in the earth. Some people think the earth is only 6,000 years old. They take literally a scripture that likens a day in man's time to 1,000 years in God's time. Others regard this as another allegory or simile in a book full of allegories and parables.
