Lovely lovely .. It starred Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. The title song was lovely and haunting.. Now why i still remember it is because the heroine reminded me of myself. She spoke her mind , wasn't scared of anyone and spoke out of turn. That time i was very young and used to do just that and get punished for it.
Then the film i was told was about how suspected communists in America in the thirties were hounded out and put in jail. Hollywood was badly affected. Any star , director or producer with left leanings was thrown out of work. Though Redford and Streisand were childhood sweethearts and they married , he was forced to leave her because she supported communist causes and he was a famous film director. So he divorced her in order to save his career. It was very sad in the end and I thought at that time.. suppose I get married one day and my husband divorces me because i talk too much?? this film haunted me for many years.

I can still hear Barbara Streisand singing the title song - quite haunting. Love story around World War 2 - and before. But what I call a weepy movie - loved it and cried at the end because it wasn't a happy ending and I wanted that. Would like to see it again.

An old-fashioned Hollywood melodrama with a progressive gloss, The Way We Were succeeds on the basis of the romantic chemistry between stars Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand. A typical boy meets radical girl and no doubt a fantastic movie to watch should you get the chance.
