First ever color film made in India was Kissan Kanhaiya produced by Imperial Film Co. This film was released in 1973. Moti B. Gidwani directed it, and its music was composed by Ram Gopal Pandey. The film had 10 songs, which were released by Gramophone Records.

Moti Gidwani's "Kisan Kanya" made in 1937 ( and not 1973 !!! for godsake how can the first Indian color film be released that late ? ) was the first indigenously-made colour film, because for technical reasons Billawamangal and Sairandhri (1933) by Shantaram had failed to qualify as colour films. Answers like Alam Ara ( first Indian talkie ) and Mughal-E-Azam ( had only one song in color when released for the first time ) are not only laughable but also strengthen the fact that we Indians hardly know anything about our films !
