A saint is one who has been accorded a high level of holiness and sanctity and considered closest to God. This title is given posthumously after the person's life or purety and holiness is recognised and revered by others. Saints are found in Christianity though other religions too honour holy people.

Sainthood is given by Catholoic church worldwide for those believers who had done proven miracles in their view. For example a nun teacher Alfonsamma from Kerala was elected as a saint by Roman Catholic church because she could cure many people from their illness and sufferings, inspite of she was suffering from a disease and died at an early age.Due to her prayers many people got cured and the notable(most proven as they claim) is a club foot boy(defect in foot with twisting and wasting) who cannot even stand became perfectly all right(now able to walk and run and has no deformity) just by her prayers. She is the first and only one from Indian subcontinent elevated to the position.Previously Mother Teresa was considered for sainthood and because they could not satisfy criteria she was dropped from list. When elevated to sainthood new churches, altaras may come in their name just like other apostels in Christianity like St.George,St.Sebastian etc.
