David MacKenzie Ogilvy is heralded as the Father of Advertising. He was born on January 23rd 1911. His The Theory and Practice of Selling the AGA cooker which he wrote in 1932 was lauded by Fortune magazine as the finest sales instruction manual ever written during those times. His older brother Francis Ogilvy, who was worked in a London advertising company Mather & Crowther, showed the sales manual to the ad agency and young David got the job of an account executive.
David Ogilvy stared the trend of Direct Advertising too. When he was barely a few months old in Londons advertising agency, a client walked in asking the agency to campaign for the opening of his hotel which he had just started. David purchased $500 worth of postcards and dispatched an invite to everyone he found in the local telephone directory. The hotel opened to full house.
