Q.

If a drop of water falls in lake there is no identity, but if it falls on a leaf of a LOTUS it shines like a PEARL. Is it in our hands [destiny] to lose our identity or we can choose to shine like a pearl ?

"I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me."
(Abraham Lincoln, letter to A.G. Hodges, April 4, 1864)

That was my main reference. Who are we to challenge destiny? A drop can never choose where it falls... in a pond, on a lotus, sewage, crow anywhere! It's the circumstances that would make that drop help find identity. We are born like a drop, pre-destined to our dear parents, and then our surroundings, coupled with our deeds & yes! destiny helps shape our identity. At the most we can plan, try our best efforts to execute it... pour our heart, soul & spirit into it, but will it reap rewards? Will it help us make an identity? No one can say for sure.

If our destiny was in our hands as a fact, people would have forgotten God! Why seek blessings when everything is in our hands? Why thank God when its we who have won the place we have reached?

If our destiny was in our hands as a fact, everyone would have become someone 'identifiable' ...more

The drop of water falling into the lake can cause ripples too :) So, yes it is in our hands if we lose our identity, or cause ripples or shine like a pearl.

Indeed it is in our hands to make the drop of water with no identity or make it shines like a pearl. When God created like on Planet Earth, He certainly made it clear there is difference between Animal and Man. The former needs nothing except shunning of his hunger, but on the other hand the latter lives for creation and this very virtue signifies the progress this planet earth has witnessed so far. The drop of water when falls in lake, it falls on skin of animals too, but it makes no difference to them because they are supposed to do nothing with that element; whereas when Man sensed the importance of water, he, with his brilliance created dams to keep the stock in need of the time, he used that water to create power, he took that water in laboratory to make the medicine, he experiment on that water to invent number of facilities for the progress of generations, he even turned that drop of water by chemical processes into pearl itself, he made roadways on that water to bridge the dist ...more

anjali, dont u think that the drop shining like a pearl will evaporate soon and no more exist but the drop in lake will become part of a huge water body and serve others and add to natures beauty... there is always the other side of the coin.... do not blame the destiny just change the attitude and thinking we all are LUCKy with unique identity and let us discover the pearl within our selves.

YES There are two commonly held views.
1) Those with the commonly held blind belief in destiny portray it as predetermination by God of everything big and small.
2) The other view is that of free choice, with destiny playing practically no role in whatever man decides and executes.
Islamic viewpoint - there is no evidence to indicate that each man's life is pre- ordained / or has no choice or option in choosing between right and wrong. Al Quran categorically rejects the concept of compulsion, and clearly states that every human being is free to choose between good and evil:
There shall be no compulsion in matters of faith. Surah Al-Baqarah (Ch. 2: V.257)
And:
Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity. It shall have the reward it earns, and it shall get the punishment it incurs. Surah Al-Baqarah (Ch. 2: V.287)
And again:
And that man will have nothing but what he strives for. Surah Al-Najm (Ch. 53: V.40)
There are some spheres of destiny which are predetermined- referre ...more
