A typical argument often made by Muslim polemicists in defense of their prophets honesty is that Muhammad was given the epithet Al-Ameen (or Amin), meaning the Trustworthy, by his kinsmen long before his alleged commission by God. They gave him this title, so it is claimed, because they considered him to be the best man among them, one who was never known to have told a lie.
