Is democracy is right kind of system for a country like India ?

Out of all the systems of governance that manikind have come out with, democracy is surely the best. We have not yet been able to find out any other system which is better than demopcracy. May be at a future date mankind will find out something better.
The doubt arises because democracy has failed or is failing in many countries. Democracy does not exist in many countries of Asia, Africa and South America. Though voting take place in most of these countries, still democracy is nonexistant; it is because voting is not democracy, counting of votes is. In most of the developing nations, things are manipulated to suit the needs of the ruling class or the rulers, as it happened recently in Pakistan. Naturally the question arises, as to why democracy is successful in countries like the US, Europe, Japan, Australia etc. and a failure in most of the developin countries.
