As she was a talented musician, her family were surprised when she chose to train as a teacher at Ipswich High School. She had little contact with her parents while she was training, as her father had by now started a family with another woman. She had never been close to her mother. Between the publication of a poem, \'Have You\', at 26, and her death at the age of 71, Blyton published over 600 novels, poems, plays and short stories.
