The State owned khadi and village industries Board as well as the cetral owned Khadi and village industries commission have been doing everything possible to promote the khadi cloth and other village produces ever since the establishment of these autonomous bodies. Every year, 20% discount is offered on khadi cloths on five occassions. The rebate of 20% is born equally by the central as well as state govts. How can you promote a product abroad when it is not finding favour with Indians back home? Now that elections are coming, there will be spurt in demand for khadi cloth. The khadi cloth is cpmaparatively costlier and very easy to get dirty. Then, there is the onslaught of "spurious khadi" which is the fake khadi produced in powerloom. The fake khadi has a superior finish and most of our beloved leaders are wearing this fake khadi cloth, knowingly or unknowinly.
