Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to announce a ban on Bt brinjal even before the Centre takes a final decision on the introduction of the controversial genetically modified (GM) crop.

If I am not mistaken, the scheme was dropped by the government when Jairam Ramesh was the minister. Not sure if later on, it has been sanctioned by the government.
