Untold story was not written by Field Marshall K. M. Cariappa. It was written by Lt. Gen. Kaul who was the commander in the eastern sector during the Sino-Indian broder conflict in NEFA, which now is the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Chinese army advanced in two of the four districts of NEFA while, at the same time, advancing from Aksai Chin in Ladakh. That area had already been occupied by the Chinese, the Chinese aggression there was succcessfully resisted by the Indian Army. But in NEFA the Indian Army faced defeat and Lt. General Kaul was removed from the command. I think he was replaced by Lt. Gen. Harbakhsh Singh. In the Untold Story Lt. Gen. Kaul has tried to explain why the army was defeated. The book was not banned. The book that was banned was India's China War by Neville Maxwell, an American journalist who quoted in that book excerpts from the Gen.
