The nearest planet mercury is the hottest one. Next Venus the third one the earth the list goes on.

My first thought would be Mercury but then I thought back to my old astronomy days. I believe Venus is the hottest. Mercury has a surface temperature of about 400 F during the day and -270 at night . While Venus has a constant temperature of about 800 deg F. Now the reason why.. Mercury although closer to the sun by about 30 million miles it has no atmosphere, because of this it can not retain heat. For this reason the dark side of Mercury drops to -270 degrees F. then has to heat back up again and the night side faces the sun. Venus on the other hand has a very dense and heavy atmosphere that allows it to retain heat even on the dark side. There is no way for Venus to dissipate its heat even on the night side. For this reason the surface temperature of Venus becomes very hot. Even though Venus is about the same size as earth it is not a place you would want to go.
