It will be tough situation, first of all there will be dip in temperature with each hour passing.since i have lived in mountains and seen lots of such situations with friends and alone but not with beloved.
best thing is if should follow the road only and keep walking ,either we will find some vehicle passing buy which is very rare on mountains at that hour
or go with the villages to near by place, ask them for the directions.
or just keep walking and some place we will reach soon because if we know where is the nearest town.
or to be on safer side, remain inside vehicle ,if its car till morning and then find direction--this way its safer to deal with cold temeprature.

Rachana deviating a little away from your question and thinking of getting lost on a misty mountain roadway on the land of Rome: with my spouse:)). How i wish this happen and we land up there by any chance and atleast i will be the happiest person getting lost on a most romantic land like that, and walking endlessly and aimlessly, we would first find some eatery to exchange some currency to have some authentic Italina Pasta and Pizza :)) to settle some hunger taking benefit of the place and then walk along to find any Indian or any book store to buy something in english to comprehend Italian which is nevertheless is a very enchanting language which neither me not my spouse can follow any bit.:). Such one place and all strangers , no vehicles will offer us any lift and no phone any close by we would walk all along having a good sight seeing of the place :) , wonderful gardens, old beautiful buildings , organic fountains, and as the day is getting to sunset we find some embassy th ...more

Villagers passing by will be of great help. Get out of the car, park it properly, with the help of villagers, with parking lights on and closer to the mountain side. And accompany the villagers to their village.
