As a matter of personal preference, I would opt for a private bank rather than a PSU bank, not because PSU banks are the same as it was say 20 or even 10 years back where the staff would derive pleasure in making your visit as painful as it can get. Some PSU banks are good but it depends entirely on the specific branch and the staff there. Some are very good but there are others you wished you never opened an account there. I will reinforce with the example of Canara Bank. With in the same city, there is one branch which is highly applauded for its service, etiquettes & courtesy of the staff and visibly appreciable conduct and attitude. On the other spectrum is a branch of the same bank known for its inefficiency of the worst order, couldn't careless and unhelpful attitude and delayed process for everything from giving cash at the counter to process any of your requests.
