In a major train accident, at least ten people were killed and several others injured when an EMU train from Chennai Beach to Vellore rammed into a stationary express train at Chitheri near Arakkonam. The growing rail accidents is a disturbing fact for the nation. This is not something happen for the first time. Railway officials say that 86% of the train accidents are caused by human error. What can be done to stop rail accidents at least that cause due to human error? Or please share your views.

Human are the weakest link in any embedded system. Failure rates for humans as system components are several orders of magnitude higher than other part of the system. Railway operation system requires involvement of a large number of persons. This results in more human errors and hence disastrous consequences. Even after adoption of automation in Railways, a reasonable number of human- related requirements would be indispensable. This makes it essential to recruit only competent and well -qualified staff for different jobs. Consequently, carefully considered standards stating qualifications and expertise for each category of employees are to be prepared and updated frequently. These standards should be adhered to since any slight deviation may result in accidents leading to loss of human lives. Discussing safety measures on this platform are of no use. Since railway mimistry is being used as a carrot by the central covt to lure support of smaller parties to save their govt.
