There are psychological reasons behind this. keralites are more individualistic than any other society in India. The security and coziness of being part of a group is far less than others with keralites. On one hand they experiment new things new ways of life and on the other hand there are also the traditional and older patterns still in place. They are also very much in the mind and thinking. All this makes kerala life very stressful. These ways also makes them very hypocritical and they seek some kind of escape. Kerala also has the highest rate of SUICIDES and now the rate of divorce is also rising sharply. Kerala society is in a transitional stage. They are moving from Group Identity to Individual Identity !
