Q.

Are these half-naked cheerleaders really necessary for IPL.

Cricket in India is the equivalent of Baseball or Basketball in USA where they have these cheerleaders.

But Cricket in India is the equivlaent of Football in England/France/Spain...where they dont have these cheerleaders.

Do we require cheerleaders in India for cricket?

There are many things cricket doesn't "need." And those cheerleaders aren't half naked, they are too damned conservatively dressed, and it pisses me off to no end. If I had it my way, and I was the dictator of India, I'd use the WWE standards for cheerleaders - and hike up the ticket price by 30% :)

Cricket doesn't "need" fancy stadiums. You can play world cup cricket by the banks of the Kuvam river or in a simple, open ground. If many a lad can play there, so can Sachin, Sehwag, Muhammed Yousef, Shane Warne and McGrath.

Cricket doesn't "need" its sportsmen entertained in five star hotels each time they play. They can make do in a lodge or w/ home stay families.

Cricket doesn't "need" corporate banners flounted all over the boundary lines.

Cricket doesn't "need" online representation and neither does it "need" giant screen TVs.

Nope...... absolutely no need.. In wat way these cheergals r cheering up players, by wearing half naked dress n dacing vulgarly ? Can v really afford to pay them? It seems dat BCCI has earned lot of money through cricket thats y they r spending money in this way. ............Except BJP, there is no political party who protest them. Very sad.

Cricket is a most boring game and some crazy people do watch it irrespective of the sun & the heat. These cheerleaders are for these poor people so that they get excited enough to sit through the day.
