Nainital is the headquarters of Nainital district in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas. It is a town in the indian state of Uttarakhand . It is surrounded by mountains, of which the highest are Naina on the north, Ayarpatha on the south and Deopatha on the west. Nainital is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, approximately two miles in circumference. Places to visit in Nainital are the church of St. John in the Wilderness, Raj Bhawan or Governor's House, High Court of Nainital. Other places to visit are Snow View which is situated at an altitude of 2,270 m and is located atop the Sher-ka-danda Ridge, Naina Peak also known as China or Cheena Peak, Tiffin Top also known as Dorothy's Seat, the High Court of Uttarakhand formerly known as The Old Secretariat and Gurney House.
