The state animal of Maharashtra is the Malabar giant squirrel.
It is a omnivorous and a solitary rodent.
In Marathi language this is known as shekru.
It is found in the canopy layer of the forest in South Asia.
When it is in danger, it often flattens itself or freezes itself against the tree trunk rather than fleeing
