Fizi is a territory and town in the province of Sud-Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located in the south of the province, on the shore of Lake Tanganyika. The region has had a long history of independence from Kinshasa. It was the location of the maquis set up by Laurent-Dsir Kabila in 1967,as well as the birthplace of his son and current President Joseph Kabila. Throughout much of the Second Congo War, the town was disputed by numerous armed groups
