Chitrakot Waterfall in Bastar near Raipur, Chhattisgarh State: This is the largest waterfall in India. About 38 km to the west of Jagdalpur, this spectacular fall is formed when the river Indravati abruptly collapses into a 100 feet deep cavern. The mouth of the fall, when in full profusion, is over 1,000 feet wide. Chitrakot is a horse-shoe shaped waterfall, best seen during and after the monsoon, between July and October.

There is no standard way to measure the height of a waterfall. Monsoon does have an effect on it. However as per records of the Indian Govt.. Vajrai Waterfall (Satara Dist - Maharashtra) has been measured at 560 metres (1840 ft) & Kunchikal Waterfall (Shimoga dist,,Karnataka) at 455 metres(1493 ft) are the highest waterfall in India.
