The nation celebrates the 140th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 105th birth anniversary of Indias second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on 2nd October,2009.Lal Bahadur was born in 2nd October 1904 in Mughal Sarai in Uttar Pradesh.Shastri was known for honesty and humility. Had the central govt passed an order, This was not impossible. And for your information, all govt institutions receive orders to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, Teachers day and so on..... No orders on Shastri ji... so sad.

A thought provoking question. Certain former Prime Ministers are remembered on their birthday, except Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri though he too was a Railway Minister before becoming a Prime Minister. Perhaps he is not remembered as it does not hold any significance in his career.

Its not that we do remember him but remember one thing Lal Bahadur Shastriji himself considered lucky to be born on such a day,and he himself considered this day as Bapu's jayanti ignoring his own birthday.
