Rediff Qand A and India today forum are very much similar. what is the need for different identities?

It appears to me that there are two entry points into the database. One from the India Today and another from the Rediff end. While each keep membership details separately, all inputs go into the same database from which data can be accessed from either end. Once when I tried entering from the Rediff end it showed 0 points in my activities. When I asked through feedback if I could get the points I earned from the India Today end transferred to Rediff, the answer was No. I wonder what sort of business model this is. Also who is the senior partner in this venture.
