At the police station he told me it was his 2nd time being caught and his license may be xxxled. He has to go to court tomorrow, do you think I made a mistake and should i pay the fine ?

Normally rules as made in a democratic country like ours are for public safety and welfare.Although non-regide rules could be over-looked and those who do not fear and care for law,do flout, yet some-times they too are checked..Nevertheless,your suggested route having ben cracked, you should morally bear with your friend.
